IP Address Determination

We’re pleased to introduce a new service, albeit a rather small one: Determine your IP address. Based on a quick-loading webpage, the tool simply displays the IP address of its visitor. This is done in a straight-forward manner and without any advertisements, of course. In addition, the IP determinator can be included on your own site: Easy to add, it can generate an image showing the visitors IP address on your website, forum post or anything else.

Dailystats 3.0 And HTTP Authentication

For a number of projects hosted on our servers, we are (among other software) utilizing Perlfect Dailystats 3.0 to get a quick and uncluttered overview of accessed files. Dailystats, which consists of two Perl scripts, can analyze web server logfiles and generate daily and monthly reports.
As downloaded from the developer's website, however, the scripts fail to correctly analyze logfiles if these include requests made with a HTTP authentication. Since they appear to be relatively unknown, we’d like to share one of the possible solutions to this problem:
In dslogs.pl at line 180,
if($_=~m/(\S+) - - \[(.*?):(.*?)\] \"\S+ (\S+) .*?\" (\d+) (\S+)(?: \"(.*?)\" \"(.*?)\")?/)
should be replaced with:
if($_=~m/(\S+) \S+ \S+ \[(.*?):(.*?)\] \"\S+ (\S+) .*?\" (\d+) (\S+)(?: \"(.*?)\" \"(.*?)\")?/)

Applying Software Updates

We have recently applyed major updates to the software running on our servers. Examples include new versions of Perl, PHP and MySQL, as well as operating system and kernel updates. Currently, most of our servers are based on Debian “Lenny”.

The Number Of Hosted Files

We have decided to discontinue regularly updating and announcing the “number of hosted files”. A simple file count is unable to represent the amount of data and number of projects we’re hosting for ourselves or third parties and fails, for instance, to include information about traffic, disc space or the usage and content of MySQL databases. Currently, the number of publicly accessible files exceeds 90.000, though the number of manually uploaded files exceeds only 17.000. However, this does not include MySQL databases (with hundreds of thousands of rows) and it won’t tell you anything about traffic - these file-count statistics are not always representative. Consequently, we will resort to more thorough statistics for announcements and have removed the file count from our main pages.

Hosting Web Analytics Solutions

Since early August, we are hosting advanced visitor tracking systems for several websites. Largely relying on Piwik, website owners can benefit from detailed statistics about their traffic, visitors and visitor configurations. For tracking purposes, a small script is added and executed with each page load, the gathered data is then processed by analysis software running on our servers, generating sophisticated reports. All data is updated in real-time or with a maximum delay of five minutes, website owners can view their most up-to-date trends and visits. Currently, several thousand visits are recorded every day. We might also provide web analytics for furthers projects, interested webmasters are asked to contact us.
